The purpose of life is…

I just can’t figure out on how to bring about that unfinished clause into a complete, relevant and meaningful statement. It is sometimes not easy to bring into a conclusion in which a cloud of doubts rule over the mind and heart. If I say that my purpose of life here on earth is to be what I am as I want to be, then people may criticize me as being self-centered and egoistic. However, that is just an instance although other people may have it as their life purpose.

We may have different purposes living here on earth. Our state of living may give us a notion of what our real purpose for existence. But do you know that oftentimes we make conclusions of our real purpose here on earth based on our current status? If you have become a priest or a nun, you may come into a conclusion that your purpose of life is to praise God and to serve him. By realizing that purpose, your life would then be surrounded with charitable works, missionary programs and people in need of your help.

If our purpose of life is to help people in need of immediate aid, we would make a career choice or perhaps a career shift. The career choice should be in line with what our purpose is. We may be working in a nonprofit organization or in any charitable institution. Or yet, we can elect ourselves to be politicians or servant leaders in order to help a wide group of people. Or become servants of God in the church.

The purpose of life may be influenced by the teachings of the society including religion, economics and politics. In religion, your purpose of life may be influenced by the teaching of your church. In the case of politics, people who enter this field must have a purpose to serve instead of bickering with other politicians or making a false face of their current feelings and state towards the people. In economic sense, we have a purpose to survive and to meet our needs and wants. The teachings in science and those mentioned by known philosophers may also bring forth influences of our life purpose.

There may be a general purpose of life if we see it in a collective way. I have learned in my theology class that God gives us a purpose to take care of his creations. We, as human beings, have been entrusted with a purpose and responsibility to be stewards of God’s creations.

We may have several purposes of life. My purpose of life may somewhat be different or similar to yours. I have figured that I have life purpose for I feel that life has some meanings. Life is relevant that is why I have made my own purposes which are translated into goals, ambitions and certain characters that I have to adhere and practice.

Having a purpose of life or having written our life purposes can provide significance of our existence here on earth. It is not only wealth that we based our urgency to work and to take challenges. It is not the material aspect that we give importance. It is the existence of other people, other creatures, the existence of an ambition and purpose that have driven us to move forward and to make our lives better.

If you have not figured out your life purpose, you may have to seek enlightenment on that. Or you could perhaps include what I have mentioned in your list of life’s purposes. I It is important to have a purpose of life for you have directions. Unless you see yourself a nihilistic, having figured out your real purpose of life can give significance on the way you live.
