The Alternative Fuel Source In Ethanol
We all know that the dilapidating state of fuel reserves all around the world is becoming quite a pressing problem already. This is precisely the reason why all of us should be familiar with ethanol. Ethanol is, by far, one of the more popular alternatives when it comes to fuel.
Let us face it: being environmentally conscious is not that appealing for a lot of reasons. Negative implications are certainly inevitable, especially when it comes to the demonstrations that many environmental activists are so known for. Personally, I can understand why the image of environmental activists is quite tainted. But we have to try to go beyond the basics and place ourselves in the position of these activists. They are, after all, just doing what they think is right in ensuring that our very own environment is properly and duly protected. Thus, we just really need to look beyond these negative connotations and really take a closer look at this pressing problem in a global scale.
Ethanol does present a better alternative, with its most basic reason in that it is all-natural. For starters, ethanol is actually grain alcohol. This is a plant mass formula that comes from all-natural sugars contained in vegetation and bio mass as well. What are these sources? These include wheat, corn, sugar cane, potatoes, and barley. These sources are as natural as they come, so you do not really have to wonder that much as to how our environment can benefit from this alternative to fuel.
But what really captured my attention here is that ethanol is actually a resource that is renewable. Fossil fuels, which are primarily used to create gasoline, are far from being renewable. One inevitable day, these fossil fuels will indeed run out. And when that happens, what are we to do then? Fossil fuel reserves are fast dilapidating at present, and it is because of this sad fact that people should be more sensitive and aware to this pressing problem.
Another great thing about using ethanol is that it does so much about the problem of pollution. Gasoline and oil are actually strong pollutants in our environment, regardless of how useful they are. I'm pretty sure you have heard news about occasional oil spills all over the world, and how these spills can be very detrimental to the ocean and the many species of animals living in this habitat. With ethanol in the picture, there would be fewer reasons to use gasoline and oil, and fewer chances of oil spills occurring as well. Now, this is indeed one of the huge advantages ethanol has over gasoline and oil. What's more, the production of ethanol is actually cheaper than the process of producing gasoline and oil. This is also another advantage that has makes the use of ethanol all the more attractive.
Right now, there are already so many cars that have the ability to run on mixtures of both gasoline and ethanol. Interestingly, the ratio of the mixture is just at 90% to 10%, in favor of gasoline. Still, this is better than nothing, since this can very well pave the way for higher ratios in the long run.
But the main problem with ethanol right now is that, although its production is quite cheaper, mass production requires a lot of resources if we were to produce this nationwide. All the more if the production should be pushed globally. Thus, there is still much need to do research on the matter, and time is actually not on our side right now. If the global powers would just stick to the purpose of coming up with an effective game plan to solve this pressing problem, then ethanol could just be the alternative that we have been looking for.
