The Pressing Need For Alternative Energy Sources
So many environmental issues have been plaguing news channels for quite some time now. With these come the sharing of opinions and views on such issues. Solutions have been proposed, budgets have been submitted. There's also that nagging feeling that maybe, just maybe, people are reading too much into the issues. Getting caught up in the hype can indeed happen, especially if there's much talk concerning these issues. For instance, let us take the problem of global warming. This problem does exist. Right? Yes, there are actually a lot of people who have been saying that people are getting too paranoid about the prospect of global warming. These people say that our planet is indeed experiencing a degree or two of warming, but this degree is just normal, and is not man-made. There are also the people on the other side of the fence who claim that the problem does exist, and that the threat it brings about is very real.
But whether or not this problem is real, there is actually another environmental problem that warrants the attention of a lot of people, particularly the world leaders. And this is the pressing problem of the depleting energy sources.
The natural resources that all of us have been relying on for energy, oil, for instance, are depleting. Worse, the rate at which these are depleting is quite fast. This is a serious race against time, which is hard to win all on its own. And if we do not find alternative energy sources fast, then we just might run out of time and suffer the consequences of our inaction and irresponsibility.
Let me tackle the concept of inaction for a while here. The need to find alternative energy sources has been existing for quite a number of years now. In fact, it has been a need that has existed for over a century alrea
dy. However, fallible as humans are, procrastination has been plaguing the scene. Well, we really cannot afford to procrastinate anymore. The need is upon us to find alternative energy sources, and find them fast.
Now, there are many alternatives that have been presented to the bulk of the public all over the world. The sun and the wind are included in the list. What's great about these natural resources is the fact that they are free. Installing solar panels onto your house can be very costly, but the benefits would outweigh such costs in the long run. The construction and installation of wind turbines, both inland and offshore, can be costly as well. The benefits would still outweigh these costs.
There are also studies being conducted currently on how to use water as fuel in running cars. The said technology needs water fuel cells, as well as a converter, in order for water to be burned as fuel for the car. This was the original idea, and some experiments were indeed successful in their plights. However, the technology has not been perfected yet, so it has not been officially released as well. Still, this promises much hope for cars running on gasoline since oil would no longer be used just to get from one place to another.
Yes, there are indeed many alternative energy sources. So, what is the problem here then? The problem is that people are still using oil as their main source of energy. This is why I am all for the promotion of these alternative energy sources. People all over the world should be made well aware of the situation at hand, as well as the alternative solutions that have been proposed. This way, people would be motivated to work hand in hand, and complete and utter depletion of the world's oil reserves would be avoided in the long run. If we do not do this right now, then we are definitely on the way to such depletion. Any moment now, and we will be grasping at straws.
