Free A Guilty Person or Convict An Innocent One?

When I attended the holy mass last June 22, the priest shared a story
that he had a talked with a female judge. When he asked her "How is it to be
a judge?", the judge answered him, "You know father, being a judge is
really very hard for it's a matter of weighing the TRUTH. And admittedly,
only God above really knows the real truth. It's really not easy 'coz the life/future of a
particular person is on at stake in my hand. But, with all these, I
always ask for God's guidance, I always pray that I will always come up
with the best and right dec
ision.
From that on, I keep asking myself "What if I am to choose one, either free a guilty person or convict an innocent one?" Wooooahhh! So hard to decide and I can't really imagine myself being a judge.
What if an innocent is convicted of a capital murder and is facing death penalty? How do you feel about convicting the innocent now? Take note that if an innocent is convicted, the guilty have already gone free. If a guilty man goes free and then goes on a killing spree - then what?
So which is which, free a guilty person or convict an innocent one?
